Proper watering, feeding, and pest management can ensure a healthy, thriving environment for your plants. This guide will provide you with tips on planting various vegetables and fruits, re-potting houseplants, and maintaining optimal growth conditions in your greenhouse. By following these suggestions, you can make the most of the season and set your plants on the path to success.

Planting and feeding greenhouse plants

  • Feed all bedding plants and tender vegetables for planting out at the end of May, ensuring proper growth and development.
  • Plant out greenhouse tomatoes, melons, cucumbers, sweet peppers, and chilli peppers in the greenhouse soil, pots, or growbags.
  • Sow sweet corn and runner bean seeds for planting out at the end of May.
  • Water and feed greenhouse plants generously to promote strong growth.

Managing pests in the greenhouse

  • Check for greenflies and red spider mites, especially on peach trees.
  • Spray grapevines for mildew if they had the disease last year.
  • Monitor all greenhouse plants for pests and treat as needed.

Houseplant maintenance

  • Re-pot houseplants that are pot-bound and prone to toppling over or drying out easily.
  • Cut back overgrown houseplants and water and feed them well until they show signs of new growth.
  • Sow basil indoors, preferably in the warmth of a greenhouse.

Planting herbs and other seeds indoors

  • Sow seeds of sweet peppers and chilli peppers for growing in the greenhouse.
  • Sow herb seeds like basil, which thrive in the warmth of a greenhouse.

Monitoring and maintaining greenhouse and houseplant health

  • Keep an eye on plants’ growth, making sure they have adequate space and are not overcrowded.
  • Tie in new shoots and remove excess shoots of grapevines every couple of weeks to maintain control.
  • Feed and water houseplants and greenhouse plants regularly to ensure they make the most of the growing season.

By following the tips provided in this article, you can create an environment in which your plants will thrive. Remember to plant, feed, and water your plants generously and keep an eye out for pests. With proper care and attention, your plants will flourish throughout the season and beyond.
