Planting and Transplanting

  • Plant wallflowers, pansies, and bachelors buttons in pots if not already done.
  • Plant any remaining spring bulbs, even though it’s late.
  • Plant perennial flowers or lift, divide, and replant if they have grown too big.
  • Use evergreen plants in containers near the house entrance for a lively display.

Bulb Care

  • Lift bulbs potted up for forcing and bring them into a warm place to flower.
  • Lift dahlias, begonias, and gladiolus in cold localities to prevent damage, or cover them with soil in milder areas.

Perennial Flower Maintenance

  • Divide and replant over-large perennial flowers during reasonably dry and frost-free weather.
  • Remove damaged tops of perennial flowers and compost them.

Adding Colour and Interest

  • Place pansies or winter cyclamen in containers for a splash of color.
  • Position potted spring flowers near the front door in time for the festive season.

Compost and Leaf Mould

  • Turn a compost heap for leaf mould made earlier in the autumn.

By following these December care tips for flowers, you can ensure a healthy and attractive garden even during the colder months.
