Lawn Revival: Boosting Grass Growth and Keeping Your Lawn Lush in March

Revive and Thrive: Transform Your Lawn This March for a Lush, Healthy Oasis

Introduction: March is a crucial month for lawn care as the weather transitions from winter to spring. It’s time to focus on boosting grass growth, addressing moss issues, and maintaining the overall health of your lawn. Here are some tips to help you revive your lawn in March.

Mowing and maintenance

  • Grass growth increases in March, so it’s essential to carry out at least one mowing session to remove withered grass tops if the ground is firm.
  • As the weather warms up, start mowing regularly every 7 to 10 days to keep your lawn looking neat and tidy.
  • Trim the lawn edges where they meet kerbs and walls, and re-cut the edges of beds and borders while the soil is moist and the sod is easily cut

Feeding your lawn

  • Lawns often need feeding in March, especially those that grew poorly the previous year or have a lot of moss.
  • Apply lawn fertilizer to boost weak lawns with slow growth and pale-colored grass.
  • Do not feed or use lawn weedkillers on wildflower areas.

Moss control

  • Use a lawn moss killer if there is heavy moss growth on your lawn.
  • Moss can be raked out after treatment, but this is laborious and not essential.

Sowing new lawns and overseeding

  • If you plan to sow a new lawn or re-seed patchy areas, prepare the ground by raking and firming it.
  • Sow lawn seed when the ground is dry and rain is expected.
  • Overseed thin, patchy lawns with fresh seed during damp weather to encourage growth.

Cultivating and weed control

  • If new areas are to be sown, cultivate the ground if possible, and spray weeds with a weed killer like Roundup before sowing.
  • Control weed seedlings between grass by hoeing on a bright, dry, breezy day.

Additional lawn care tips

  • Avoid walking on a wet lawn to prevent damage.
  • Re-pot house plants that are pot-bound and falling over.
  • Check for pests like greenflies and scale insects and treat them accordingly.

By following these lawn care tips, you’ll be well on your way to reviving your lawn in March. A little attention to detail and regular maintenance will ensure a lush, healthy lawn throughout the spring and summer months.
