Mowing and Feeding
- Continue mowing as necessary due to a potential surge in grass growth.
- Apply autumn lawn fertilizer to strengthen grass before winter and increase soil fertility for the following year.
- Keep edges neat around beds and borders.
Repairing and Establishing New Lawns
- Carry out repairs to worn or damaged areas, lifting sods or sowing seeds on bare areas after loosening the surface.
- Sow grass seed for new lawn areas on well-prepared, well-firmed, and level soil.
- Over-sow an old lawn by killing the existing grass with a suitable herbicide and sowing new seeds onto the dying sod a week or two later.
Moss Control
- Apply sulphate of iron moss killer if moss was a problem last winter.
- Feed the grass to help it compete with moss.
Lawn Care During Winter Months
- Avoid mowing during soggy or frozen conditions to prevent soil compaction and poor growth.
- Refrain from walking on the lawn when it is soggy or frozen.
- Use moss-killer, such as sulphate of iron or lawn sand, in autumn for better results than in winter.
